Town got their first win in six matches following a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday earlier today.

One time Town target Daryl Murphy who is on loan to The Owls from Sunderland was the first to make an attempt on goal but his effort was held by Town ‘keeper Lewis Price. Murphy also had a header cleared by Town defender Jason De Vos soon after.

 

Town had most of the possession early on but struggled to create any clear chances, they best they could muster was a 25-yard effort from Gavin Williams which was aimed at Owls ‘keeper Nicky Weaver.

 

Glenn Whelan and Steve Adams both fired the ball over before De Vos blocked another shot from Daryl Murphy.

 

Owls boss Paul Sturrock was forced into a change before half time when striker David Graham was forced off with an injury, Chris Brunt replacing him for the final five minutes of the half.

 

Town boss Joe Royle made his own change after half time, Danny Haynes who was starting his first senior game would not be finishing it, Darren Currie replacing him for the second half.

 

Brunt fired wide for the home side, while Richard Naylor headed wide and Nicky Forster fired over from 6 yards.

 

Ian Westlake and Matt Richards came on for Jim Magilton and Dean Bowditch and Paul Sturrock sent on Chris Eagles for Steve Adams as both sides went for a more attacking approach.

 

While attacking players came on it was a defender who had the next chance of the game, Graham Coughlan forced Price into action after connecting with a Eagles corner.

 

Williams and Currie both fired over for Town before Nicky Forster got the only goal of the game after 87 minutes when he got his right foot on the end of De Vos’ knock down and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

 

That win has lifted Town to 15^th in the table, 6 points off the play-offs and nine above the drop zone.
