Ipswich Town captain Jim Magilton has confirmed that this season will be the last at Portman Road for him.

The 36-year-old is closing in on 300 appearances for Town had the chance to leave in the summer but he stayed at Town.  

 

Jim: “Everybody needs a fresh start and mine will come next summer, although at the moment I have no idea where.

 

“I am in my last year with Ipswich and it has been a fantastic ride. I will give it everything I've got for the rest of this season because I would love to finish on a high note.

 

“As to what the future might hold, I really don't have a clue. We'll just have to wait and see what's next for me.

 

“I am looking forward to going back to Ireland and doing my UEFA A coaching licence next summer, but after that your guess is as good as mine.

 

“If I don't have a club next summer I will just go along and watch games. You never know when something might crop up.

 

“Last summer I was just sitting at home one day when the phone rang and it was Ian Atkins on the other end.

 

“He was the manager of Bristol Rovers and wanted to sound me out about going down there as player-coach. It came right out of the blue.

 

“It gave me something to think about, but in the end I decided to accept Ipswich's offer and have one last season here.

 

“Had I gone down there I might have got the job as manager when Ian left. You never know what's round the corner in football.

 

 “I know I can still contribute something and I will give it absolutely everything over the final months of my contract.

 

“I want to enjoy what's left of my time here. I'm not thinking too much about my next move and will wait to see what the options are when the time comes.”
