Ipswich Town moved level on points with Wigan after a 3-2 win against George Burley’s Derby County side earlier today.
It was 3-2 at Pride Park back in August only with the rams getting all three points today at Portman Road it was Town thanks to goals from Jim Magilton, Darren Bent and Tommy Miller.
Derby took the lead after just 7 minutes when a break down in communications between Richard Naylor and Jason De Vos allowed Derby to break with Bisgaard who found Tudgay who headed home to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
Town could of had two goals before they levelled, first Shefki Kuqi scuffed his shot wide while under pressure from Pablo Mills, Richard Naylor hit the underside of the bar with his header from Darren Currie’s Corner. Derby nearly went and doubled their lead after breaking out of their box and into the Ipswich half, Tommy Smith cross found Grzegorz Rasiak who headed over.
Town levelled the scores on 24 minutes, Shefki Kuqi’s cross was met by Darren Bent who laid the ball back to Town captain Jim Magilton who placed the ball into the back of the net from inside the box for his first goal in since 2003.
Minutes later Richard Naylor nearly gave Town the lead when he got his head on another Darren Currie corner only to have his effort cleared off the line Adam Bolder.
Jim Magilton looked likely to give Town the lead before the break but rather than hit Bent’s pass he missed the ball allowing Derby to clear.
Magilton’s miss was academic really as only 12 seconds after the restart Darren Bent had raced though and scored a one on one with his England under 21 team mate Lee Camp.
Bisgaard could of got Derby level soon after but sent his shot well into the stands before Town were denied by the cross bar for the second time when Shefki Kuqi lifted his effort over Camp and on to the front of the bar.
Tommy Miller made it 3-1 with 19 minutes to go some how drilling in Shefki Kuqi half cleared shot though a crowded penalty box for his 6th goal in 8 games.
Derby’s Idiakez ensured a grand stand finish when he headed home a second for County with 5 minutes to go but Burley’s men couldn’t find an equalizer so Town held on to all three points.
Town moved level on points with Wigan as the Latics lost 2-1 against West Ham but they remain 3rd on goal difference 5 points behind Sunderland who play Wigan on Tuesday night.
