Gillingham Report

Ipswich Town’s promotion hopes took a minor dent today after only managing a draw with relegation threatened Gillingham.

Towns first goalless draw in over a year left them 3 points behind second placed Wigan and 6 behind new league leaders Sunderland who beat Coventry 1-0 today.

Richard Naylor could of given Town the lead inside 10 minutes after he got his head Darren Currie’s free kick but Naylor’s effort was held by Brown in the Gills goal.

Despite Town being the most prolific team in the league at the start of play today very little was heard of either Darren Bent of Shefki Kuqi during the first half, most of the attacking was in fact done by the Gillingham pair of Sidibe and Douglas who troubled the Town goal a lot during the first half.

Tommy Miller and Fabian Wilnis both went close for Town inside a minute of one another.

Town manager Joe Royle brought on Jim Magilton in place of Matt Richards at the start of the second half as Town tried to get a better grip on the game but very little changed only a few real chances.

Flynn forced Davis into a acrobatic save with 30 minutes to go, Town wasted a free kick on the edge of the box other than that a very sleepy half until the final minute when Gillingham could of won it in the dieing moments when Jonathon Douglas smacked the bar from close range.
