5 Star Youths
Ipswich Town’s youth team have eased in the semi-finals of the FA youth cup after beating Colchester United’s youth side 5-0 at layer road.
Goals from Aidan Collins, Liam Craig, Billy Clarke and two goals from Darryl Knights wrapped up the win and sent Town back up the A12 with a FA Youth cup semi final to look forward to.
Town dominated the first half but failed to score until just before half time when Darryl Knights got his foot on the end of Billy Clarke’s ball from Owen Garvan’s free kick.
Defender Aidan Collins doubled Town’s lead early during the second period heading in Liam Craig’s corner and the tie was wrapped after 55 minutes after Knights scored his second of the night following some good link up play from Craig and Cathal Lordan.
Just because the game looked beyond doubt Town didn’t let off the pedal too much going on to score a further two goals the first of which came on 78 minutes when Liam Craig tapped in Cathal Lordan’s cross.
The 5th and final goal of the evening just before the end with Darryl Knights setting up Billy Clarke to round off the night.
Their reward for beating Colchester is a semi-final tie against either Watford or Tottenham with the first leg at home on the 9th of April (venue and kick-off time to be confirmed) and a second leg away on the 23rd of April (venue and kick-off also to be confirmed)
