In form Nottingham Forest came to Portman Road unbeaten in six games and left having been hit for six by Ipswich Town.
Forest Cut Down By Town
Richard Naylor opened the scoring, Ian Westlake added a second Tommy Miller netted twice including a penalty, Shefki scored one and Darren Bent got his first goal in 7 games to round off the goals.
Town started the better side keeping forest on the back foot for pretty much the entire first half although failed to create any thing of any real threat until the 15th minute when Tommy Miller shot too close to Gerrard in the Forest goal.
Town got the first of their deserved goals after 27 minutes, Richard Naylor bagged his 5th goal of the season, getting down low to head in Jim Magilton’s corner, David Unsworth came close to extending Town’s lead hitting the post and Darren Bent some how his the side netting trying to hit home the re-bound.
Ian Westlake did score a second for Town, Shefki Kuqi’s parried header wasn’t dealt with by the Forest defence and Westlake tapped the ball home in the 35th minute.
Jim Magilton was taken off at half time with a calf strain Darren Currie coming on in his place, the change of personal had very little change on the game as Town continued to dominate and score goals.
It took just five minutes of the second half for Town to score again, Darren Bent who has been in poor form of late did all the hard work and set up Tommy Miller who hit the ball home from 12 yards.
Kris Commons tried his luck from distance but his effort was well held by Town ‘keeper Kelvin Davis.
The Bent and Miller combination worked again, Bent brought down in the box by Wes Morgan and the referee awarded a penalty which was coolly tucked into the bottom left corner of the goal by Tommy Miller on 64 minutes.
Shefki Kuqi scored his 16th goal of the season, a Fabian Wilnis header hit the bar and again the forest defence failed to deal with the ball allowing Shefki Kuqi to make it 5-0.
Darren Bent rounded off the goal scoring fun in the 71st minute finally ending a run of bad form hitting the back of the net from 18 yards, Gerrard got half a hand to it but not enough to stop it going in.
