A small piece of Ipswich Town will be made in the summer when the first Icelandic scholar joins the Ipswich academy.

Iceman Cometh

16-year-old Icelandic ’keeper Oskar Petursson has agreed a two year scholarship and he may be joined by fellow countryman Bjorn Orri Hermannsson, who may be harder to persuade to come to Town because it is believed he has some of the bigger names in European football chasing his signature.

Town’s academy recruitment Malcolm Moore is out in Iceland meeting with Petursson’s parent’s and teachers to help with his education once he leaves Iceland for Town.

Town’s academy director Bryan Klug: “Both Oskar and Bjorn have impressed sufficiently for us to make them offers and we are delighted that Oskar has already accepted.

“There is another young striker, Viktor Unnar Illugason, who was over and scored for us in a game against West Ham.

“He is a year younger than the other two and we like the look of him as well, so he will probably be back at some stage.”
