Report: Town Vs Watford - When Luck Ran Out
Town blew the chance to go six points clear of Wigan after losing to Watford 2-1 on Tuesday night at Portman Road.
Right I don’t know where to go with this match report lessons hadn’t been learnt from Town’s trip to vicarage road earlier in the season where Watford twice from set pieces and we again allowed to them to score twice from set pieces.
Watford by far the better side in the first half and Watford ‘keeper Paul Jones was hardly troubled although Tommy Miller did have a couple of chances to give Town a lead.
The Town defence went for half-term early as ever allowing Watford to score with one of only 5 shots they had all night, Jay Demerit headed in Neil’s Cox’s cross which came from Johnnie Jackson’s corner just before the half time whistle.
The second half really should of seen Darren Bent score at least 3, Tommy get 2 and David Unsworth get one but this wasn’t Town’s night. Bent sent efforts every which way of goal apart from in including one effort that hit the face of the bar after he had lobbed Paul Jones. Miller found his shooting boots once again but is yet to find his scoring boots sending two very good chances wide of the up rights and David Unsworth missed from four yards.
Bruce Dyer doubled Watford’s lead in the 81st minute when he head home another Johnnie Jackson corner to almost certainly put the game to bed.
Town did however get one goal back after the referee awarded a hand ball against Neil Cox which Tommy Miller converted as ever from 12 yards with five minutes to go.
Town couldn’t follow the penalty up with another goal and have now slipped to 2nd place in the table on goal difference behind Wigan who beat Coventry City on Wednesday night.
