Former Ipswich Town striker James Scowcroft is set to return to Portman Road on-loan until the end of the season.

Town manager Joe Royle has made three previous attempts to sign Scowcroft, once while manager at Manchester City and two last year in an effort to bring the 29-year-old back to Portman Road.

Royle has brought the striker in from Leicester as cover for Shefki Kuqi who is going to be out for at least a month. Scowcroft is out of contract in the summer and Town are expected to give him a permanent deal closer to the time.

Town manager Joe Royle: “With Shefki's injury worse than we first thought, we knew we had to bring in someone and I spoke to Craig Levein after Saturday's game and realised there was a possibility of getting James. We talked again on Sunday and he has allowed James to join us and the player agreed and will train with the squad and be with us until the end of the season.

“I am delighted to get James at last. It's taken a while but we finally got there.”
