Town defender Gareth McAuley is reportedly on the verge of joining either Middlesbrough or Sheffield United according to reports that surfaced last night. Middlesbrough were reportedly ready to pay £1 million for the 29-year-old defender just before the end of the transfer window and it now looks like they want him on-loan for three months before trying to sign him permanently in January.
Sheffield United appear keen on a similar deal as a McAuley could viewed as a replacement for Matthew Kilgallon, who could be on his way out of Bramhall LAne
McAuley was stripped of the Town captaincy last month sparking rumours of a rift between him and Town manager Roy Keane which Keane has denied.
