Championship pair Doncaster Rovers and Crystal Palace are both reportedly keen on signing Town striker Jon Stead, who may have fallen out of favour with Town manager Roy Keane. The 26-year-old striker is believed to be one of three players about to be shipped out of Town by Roy Keane following his sides poor start to the season and Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll has admitted that he would be interested in signing Stead, saying: "He's a good player with a good character and he has been mentioned to us before.

"His agent seems to feel that he would thrive on the environment down here, but as soon as you mention the dreaded word 'salary', our interest slightly wanes a little bit because of the cost implication.

"He's a very good player. We'll always follow things up, but at the back of your head, you'll always be thinking 'can we afford it?' And the answer is probably not."

Elsewhere reports in London are suggesting that Neil Warnock would like to sign Stead on-loan as long as no one else snaps him up first.

A bit too soon to let Stead or Garvan go - no replacements signed yet!

And as for going out on loan - no way - stump up the cash or forget it!

a big mistake to get rid of him, he's had no service from the midfield so whats keane expect him to do by himself, keane's making no sense
