Jim: We Were Below Par

By Aston
November 15 2008

Town manager Jim Magilton feels that Town were below par during the 1-0 defeat against Doncaster Rovers earlier today. Jim: "In the past seven or eight games we have been very good but we had four or five below par performances today and as a result we lost the game.

"The quality of our play has improved but today we lacked quality in vital areas.

"We got bullied in the middle of midfield and over-run at times. We have enough experience and quality in there but unfortunately they were better than us in that department.

"Doncaster are a good footballing side and they deserve credit for digging in. They worked hard to close us down and stopped us playing.

"Richard Naylor could have done better for their goal too. Richard Wright makes a great save to keep us in the game and really we are better than that.

"We seem to save our worst performances for Sky TV, which is unfortunate. It is disappointing to end that run we are on so what we have to do is get on another run."

I didn't think they closed us down that much tbh. That's our Achilles heel usually but today we just swaggered in thinkin' we had it made. We should have done a professional job here and took off with three points. Walters gettin' subbed when Lisbie was pants just about sums Jim up. Tryin to let the lad rediscover his confidence when he should have hooked him top speed instead.

Havin' said all this we had two very good pens turned down. If we'd have got just one and scored it, we'd have gone on to score more.
