Report: Town 1-4 Wigan

Town slid out of the Carling Cup earlier tonight after being defeated 4-1 by Premiership side Wigan Athletic at Portman Road earlier tonight. Town dominated the first half and could have easily been two or three goals up before half time if it wasn't for a slice of bad luck and some high class from Wigan ‘keeper Chris Kirkland.

David Norris was the first to see how good Kirkland was, Norris' effort being tipped round the post. Jon Walters fired over the bar from 10-yards, Miller had an effort deflected just wide of the post and Alex Bruce had an effort cleared off the line by the Wigan defence all in the first half.

How ever the second half was a very different story, Wigan took the lead just 6 minutes after the restart, Lee Cattermole able to bundle the ball over the line from a Palacios free kick.

Town levelled 10 minutes later when Jon Walters was on hand to volley home Alan Quinn's cross from the left wing. Wigan restored their lead just three minutes later when Kapo was the quickest to react to Heskey's header down and fired the ball past Wright.

Wigan virtually wrapped up the win in the 70th minute when Paul Scharner poked the ball into the net from close range. Henri Camara scored the final goal of the night in stoppage time.
