Town let three points slip through their fingers against Southampton earlier, drawing 2-2 despite taking a 2-1 lead. Town started well with Jon Walters firing over after just three minutes but it was the home side who took the lead. Andrew Surman firing home from 20-yards to give Southampton a 1-0 lead.

Town reacted with a number of chances in the following minutes, Jon Stead had a shot blocked by Chris Perry, Alan Quinn was denied by Kelvin Davis.

Town levelled the scored after 20 minutes, Norris' shot was parried by Davis into the path of Stead who was also denied by the former Town ‘keeper but Garvan was on hand to fire home the rebound to make it 1-1.

Town came close to taking the lead soon after but Davis was again on hand to deny both Stead and then Norris.

Pim Balkestein was in the right place to deny Stern John while Jon Stead thought he had given Town the lead only to be ruled off side.

Town took the lead 5 minutes into the second half, Alan Quinn was on hand to head home Volz's cross to give Town the advantage.

Quinn and Balkestein both went close for Town while Nathan Dyer went close for Southampton.

Southampton drew level on 68 minutes when Pekhart was on hand to fire past Wright after a good break by Southampton.

Counago and Lisbie came on for Town and both of them came close within minutes of coming on, both denied by Davis in the Southampton goal.

Town's claims for a penalty were waved away in the final moments as the game ended 2-2.
