Town's search for a win away from Portman Road finally came to an end today after they beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Hillsborough. David Norris and Stephen Bywater both made their Town debuts while Nick Colgan and Velice Sumulikoski both starting on the bench.

It started well for Town with former Owl (and Blade) Alan Quinn scoring his first goal for Town since joining Town from Sheffield United after just 4 minutes when he fired home from 20-yards.

9 minutes later Marcus Tudgay levelled the scores when he volleyed home after Graham Kavanagh's shot had been blocked by Alex Bruce. Between the first two goals Wednesday had the bar after Dan Harding deflected Jermaine Johnson's shoot.

Both sides had chances to take the lead before the half time break with Counago, Wright and Quinn all going close for Town while Johnson, Tudgay and Kavanagh all going close for The Owls.

The second half was similar with chances being created by both sides, Norris and Wright for Town and Johnson again for Wednesday.

Despite all the chances being created by Town, Jim Magilton saw it fit to bring on Alan Lee for the final 25 minutes and the decision paid off as Lee scored his 10th goal of the season when he found the back of the net with an overhead kick.

Subs Not Used: Wood, Gilbert.

Attendance: 19,092.
Referee: Colin Webster (Tyne & Wear).

Town are back up to 6th in the table, although could drop to 7th if Wolves beat Watford in the game that's currently on going.

Lets not get too carried away with this, yes its an away win but we should have beaten Wednesday anyway, a team fighting for the play-offs against a team one point outside the relegation zone.

But three points is three points, Leggi how did we play?

Thought we did ok against a side who's defensive frailties looked even worse than our own!!!
Really impressed with Alan Quinn, he provided an excellent performance as did the brilliant Walters. The report above does'nt tell the same the story as the game Ive just seen, we were never in any real danger of losing this and totally ruled the midfield battles. The one disappointment was Jims selection of Tommy Miller (who was once again nonigsistant) and playing Counago alone up front, who tried for 15 minutes but did'nt get his goal, so gave up, we were crying out for Alan Lee to punish their awful defence. David Norris did'nt do much to be honest, he has to be in the middle (in place of Miller) to outstand I think. Bywater was ok but only really tested once.
Heres my marks:
Bywater 6 (nowt to do)
Wright 6 (rarly tested)
Harding 5 (a few mistakes)
Bruce 6 (never going to be a good C
De Vos 7 (good,for a change)
Norris 6 (did what was asked,nothing outstanding)
Miller 0 (was he there??? GET RID)
Walters 7 (hard working,excellent performance)
Garvan 6 (needs to tackle more imo)
Quinn 8 (really impressed me, looks a quality signing)
Counago 6 (looked good for 15 mins but then failed)
Subs:
Lee 7 (needed him on sooner,he would have punished them more.
Haynes 6 (should have scored one)

A good but freezing day out, for the Ipswich masses who were there in fine vocal support, which could'nt be said for the 'dead' Wednesday support.
Also, we were situated in the 'Carlsberg' stand yet it did'nt sell ale!!!Shoddy ground

There you go i said you would get at least a draw you went one better ,we didnt turn up again today Vocal Support ???? i was in the opposite end and never heard a thing from your 500 fans! forget the playoffs that was the worst game this season at our place by far ,two players who earned their wages today Quinny for you (great strike) and Tugay for us the rest might as well have stayed at home ,in fact it was such a shocking attempt at football by both teams I wished I had as well ,good luck for the rest of the season hopefully see you next season but on that showing we will go down you will stay where you are, now whats that adminstrators number?

500 fans??? try nearly 2000 fella, we outsung you guys before, during and after the game mate, and yes you are right on that performance you will go down, although I would say you were a tad better than that 5hite Blackpool team we played the other week, which says an awful lot about how 5hite we were that day.

This guy's bitter. New players in our team will get better with a few games yet still got us that first win on the road. Better times ahead for sure imo, not another false dawn.

Bitter? mo lager thanks ok then i give you 750 fans still couldnt hear them or us for that matter! sorry your going nowhere its another false dawn for you we are still in the dark and treated like mushrooms! still was a poor poor game though.

Rick, it was a poor game for yourselves, if you had seen some of the rubbish football we have played away from home this season, yesterdays performance was a breath of fresh air. Thought we dominated possession and your best chance of getting into the game (that new guy showumni?) Brian Laws took off and there ended Wednesdays threat. I hope this away win kick starts our form again and we will push on to the Play-offs at least, as for Wednesday, Rick, Can only see you going down with an 'even 5hitter' defence than ourselves.
Good luck for the rest of the season though, and cheers for the double
