Town defender Jason De Vos feels that former Town striker Darren Bent should have taken part in England’s game against Croatia.

De Vos: “What's the point of Benty being in the squad if they are not going to give him a chance? I was listening to the commentary against Croatia and they kept going on about the lack of pace in the England side and one of the quickest players in the country is sitting on the bench.

 

“Not only that but he's scoring goals for his club and playing well. That situation puzzles me, it really does.

 

“I'm sure if Benty was playing for a bigger club, he would get on. He might even have started.

 

“When you are looking for players to get behind defences, then Benty must be your number one option at the moment. It seems that when England want to change it though, they always look for Jermain Defoe but he's not in the Spurs side every week and has not been in great form.

 

“It's got nothing to do with the fact that I've played with Benty, I just think he has done enough to deserve his chance.”
