What Players To Return?

Paul Harsley was one of the few bright spots from last season. We signed him on a free from Scunthorpe and he was one of the best players we have had in the four seasons back in the league. Unfortunately he will no doubt get fixed up with a team and playing in the conference would be too low a level for a man of his talent. Chances of coming back 1/10. - Do we want him back? 10/10

Dominic Ludden No thanks! 0/10

Andrew Woodward was another free signing, joining from Sheffield United. He made the decisions to join us instead of Scunthorpe with Brian Laws claiming that we offered first division wages. We never got first division performances out of him although once in the position of centre back his performances were much more solid. We couldn't afford his wages any more, and he will probably get a new club. 2/10 - 5/10

Paul Stoneman was Town's longest serving player and will have been disappointed to have got the boot. He has been there in the conference with the Shaymen, and although his performances were disappointing last season I can see him returning to the club. 8/10 - 6/10

Craig Middleton did not get much of a chance last season. One of the hero's the season before popping up with some important goals, but didn't really get much chance this season. Could be a good conference player. 6/10 - 7/10

Neil Redfearn. What can be said about Redders that hasn't been said already. He was all lined up for the managers job but has now decided to look elsewhere for work. Most fans would like to see him installed as player-manager but it all depends now on the new owner of the club (if we get one). 7/10 - 9/10

Steve Kerrigan was a hero after the previous season in which we just manager to avoid the drop. 19 goals in a poor team was no mean feat, but last season the closest he got to scoring was in the Coliseum nightclub. Could be a good player in the Conference but it is a big risk. 5/10 - 5/10

Gary Jones. The same as Kerrigan. Could be a good player in the lower division, but it is a risk. Is this risk worth taking? 2/10 - 0/10

Craig Midgley has the speed to terrorise defences, and I think he would be a great little player in the Conference. Would he come back though? 4/10 - 6/10

Mark Jules also had speed, but his defensive abilities let him down. 3/10 - 1/10

Barry Richardson was signed after Lee Butler's retirement. I am not bothered about him coming back. I am sure we could get someone better. 1/10 - 0/10

Steve Swales was signed from Hull City and often resembled a headless chicken. 0/10 - 0/10

Graham Mitchell will return if Redfearn does. Mitchell was lined up to become a coach as part of Redfearn's backroom staff. He would be a great leader in the Conference. 5/10 - 6/10

Alan Reilly never won over the Town fans. He never looked fit and often confused himself when trying a ball trick. 1/10 - 0/10

Ian Fitpatrick became a crowd favourite last season, and I would be surprised if he didn't get sorted with a league team for next season. Most fans would love to see him back at the Shay. 2/10 - 9/10

Jamie Wood scored one more goal than Kerrigan and so you can imagine he never won many friends with the Shay faithful. He had not scored for over a year at Hull City so why Bracewell signed him I don't know. 0/10 - 0/10

Peter Crookes was never given a chance as keeper. I had seen him often in the reserves and was not that impressed but he might be given another chance. 3/10 - 4/10

Peter Wright is a skilful terror of defences. At about 4 foot in height he has the ability to take on defenders. Could return. 4/10 - 8/10

Steve Bushell was the surprise package this season. Alan Little had preciously worked with him in his York City days and quickly move in to sign him from Stalybridge. A no-nonsense midfielder and full of energy quickly turned himself into a crowd favourite. Everyone would love to see him back at the Shay next season as captain. Fingers crossed. 6/10 - 10/10
