A 20-18 win at Pirates has got Blues on the points scoreboard and sets the standard for the rest of the season.
It was a game where Blues had to nullify the opposition and master the conditions and they did both. However, it was close with Pirates scoring a last ditch try out wide and needing the conversion to level the scores. It was wide and Blues returned home wit the four points.
It was windy and muddy and tight at half time as Blues went in 7-3 up courtesy of an Alex Day try -the pack shoving PIrates off their own scrum with the Blues skipper the first to react and the ball popped out.
Will Maisey slotted a couple of second half pens. Dean Adamson did cross but there was a foot in touch before Pirates got back in the game and levelled the scores throyugh penalties and a try from Alex Schwarz.
Matt Worley was the man to make the difference as he beat three men to set Sean French up to go over.
The one score lead looked fragile and Pirates did get that late try but Blues desrved the win.
