The first round resuts show a clear gulf between the Championship club and the "second strings" of their Premiership opposition with the Blues losing 47-12 at Sale Sharks.

Only Trailfindfers flew the flag beating Saints 48-22.

Hopefully, these games will provide important lessons and give Championship clubs a realistic idea of whwre they need to improve.

Salford, Lancashire, UK. 9th September 2023; AJ Bell Stadium, Salford, Lancashire, England; English Premiership Rugby Cu

In Blues case it is in taking chances when they come along. A handful were spruned whereas Sharks snapped at anything that came their way running in three breakaways.

Blues did scre three tries throughh James Lennon and Sean French. They take on Falcons next in the North East on Friday night. It won't be any easier as the Geordies travelled to Ampthill and recorded a 17-40 win.

Yeah, but they're only the English champions, so perhaps that doesn't count?

Well done to Coventry and Ealing - two clubs who will be setting the pace in the forthcoming Championship league.
The Blues were clearly blown away by Sale and will probably suffer a similar result on Friday night up in Newcastle. Bedford will be in real problems if we have significant injuries over the coming weeks.
That said, this Cup competition is giving the Championship clubs some idea of how they match up in terms of class against Premiership sides (albeit weakened sides and less than first-choice XV's).

Better showing by us against Falcons.

Hoping we put Caldy away this weekend coming.,
