Normally at this time of year you start to get that little tingle of excitement with pre-season training underway and some serious competition on the horizon. That's not happening this time around with the World Cup meaning we don't start league games until mid-October.

Fortunately, we do have the prospect of an intriguing local derby before that when Ampthill visit in the much ignored Championship Cup.

This is a contrived competition, which was to run for only two years so it will be interesting to see what happens in season 2020-21.

We host Trailfinders first on September 21st but it's the local bragging rights which will bring in the crowds on October 5th.

Ampthill's rise has been tremendous and shows the strength of rugby in our neck of the woods.

They proudly boast they are still a community club - apart from Wasps and Sarries aren't every other club - but they certainly are a more traditional rugby club and that is to their credit. They will find professional life much tougher, but they'll certainly be giving it a go when they visit Goldington Road,.
