Myles Dorrian may have competition for the kicking tee against Dragons this weekend - from a second row ...

Aussie lock Byron Hodges is in the squad for the vist of Newport Gwent Dragons and he was also the goalkicker for Sydney Stars. The 24 year old is said to be a powerhouse and he will add extra interest when he comes off the bench to figure in a much changed Blues side.

After two league wins on the trot the B&I cup gives the coaches the chance to look at other options.

As a result Elliot Clement-Hill, George Perkins, Tom Griffiths, Myles Dorrian and Tom Whitely will all start in the backs. Up front Camilo Parilli-Ocampo, Sam James, Christian Judge, Will Carrick-Smith and Jason Hill will all also start.

The game will be the annual Ladies Day fixture to raise money for Cancer Research UK with and on top of two-for-one ground entry for all ladies and lkots going on in the Blues Marquee.

"James Chapron, who heads up the Dragons Premiership Select side for the second season running, has looked back on the sides performance last season in the hopes of the players learning a few lessons ahead of this Cup campaign. He commented: “Doncaster were a very good team and it was a lesson for us. The boys found out that if you make errors then good teams will punish you.

“It was a harsh lesson and one that the younger sides need to learn quickly. Against Bedford we need to keep the ball, go through the phases and be positive in what we do.”

Chapron continued: “For players like Leon Brown, Arwel Robson, Connor Edwards and Barney Nightingale it was their first year in the competition out of regional age-grade and that will stand them in good stead.

"They've all been training with the seniors as proper professionals and that gives them confidence.

"Kingsley (Jones, Dragons Head Coach) and his coaches have integrated British and Irish Cup training with the seniors, so we are at a decent intensity to give us the best possible chance."

Looking forward to tomorrows match, Chapron added: "These first two games are crucial to get the campaign off to a good start, which we did last year to set up the Doncaster double-header.

"If we can pick up something in Bedford and target a home win against Ealing we are in the fight, if we don't then it's an uphill battle for the next four games."

The Dragons British and Irish Cup squad sees a mixture of youth and experience with Dragons back row Josh Skinner captaining the side.

The back three sees fullback Will-Talbot Davies named alongside wings Patric Lewis and Jarred Rosser. The centre partnership sees Barney Nightingale and Connor Edwards named with the half-back positions taken by Dragons and Newport RFC players Arwel Robson and Owen Davies.

The front row sees props Keagan Bale and Leon Brown join hooker Ellis Shipp. The second row sees Dragons player Joe Davies and Newport RFC captian Adam Brown join forces, with a back row consisting of Andrew Waite (Bedwas), Josh Skinner and number eight Harri Keddie.

The B & I Cup that annual 'pantomime' of rugby is her again........an event which in my opinion should not be taken to seriously, it enables many teams to offer their second or third string a chance of a game, and in our case another chance of 'squad rotation'..........

To many it's another chance of some 'foreign travel' to watch rugby being played in another clubs veritable 'ploughed field'........

It would be nice to do well and I hope we do, but I would personally prefer to play in a fourteen club league with regular home and away games.....at least Mrs S would know where I was......

As for tomorrow it's Ladies Day, so give generously its raising money for Cancer Research a cause which both me and Mrs S regretfully know to well.....

I wonder if those ladies who were there last year will make a return, having a Butler serve them 'bubbly' in the stand during the during the game......pure style!

Interesting point about Dorian having competition for the kicking duties. I should think he has competition from any of the 15 . . . . .has to be the worst kicker in the division without a doubt.
Team looks good with the exception of our 10 and 15 (not mentioning names as that would be wrong).
If we can get that team out with Burns and Sharp at 9 and 10 and bring Farrell or Tapley into the squad instead of our starting 15 it has the look of a good 22.
Should start climbing the table (not quite sure how we are only a few points off third despite how we have played so far - encouraging for the remainder of the season).
Yet again though we seem to have a distinct lack of lineout options so very interesting to see what the Aussie brings from the bench.

Is anyone else as baffled as I am by the horrendous errors posted on the BBC Sports pages?
We seem to have achieved those 64 points from 2 tries and 2 conversions!!
As for the B&I Cup table - well groups 4 and 5 have played 6 matches and Bedford Blues (amongst others) are not listed as players in those groups!
My emails to the useless beeb will, I'm sure , be ignored as usual. They remain, as for many years, totally disinterested in rugby at our level and it truly sickens me.

I've moaned before to the BBC, why do us and Doncaster not deserve the Blues and Knights respectively after our names but other clubs do! Didn't work! Haha!

Spare a thought for Jersey, according to the BBC they've played 6 games in pool 5 and 1 in Pool 1. They must have a big squad!
