Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers' 25 year old defender Richard Stearman until the end of the season.

Over the past 24 hours much speculation has arisen about the chances of the former Leicester City central defender or right back coming to Portman Road and after passing a medical this morning the deal has now been completed with the player posing for photographs at the club this afternoon.

Born in Wolverhampton, Stearman came through the youth ranks at Leicester, making his debut at the age of 17 during the 2004/2005 season. He stayed at the Foxes for four further years appearing in 116 league games and contributing seven goals.

Following the relegation of Leicester to League One in 2007/2008, Stearman signed for Wolves in the summer of 2008 and to date has managed to appear in 121 league games scoring a single goal with a good number of those games coming under current town boss Mick McCarthy.

Stearman has represented England Under 21s on four occasions, but of late has been linked with a possible call up to the Republic of Ireland national team with it being revealed he holds an Irish passport.
