Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has admitted that Town were second best during the 1-1 draw against Barnsley this afternoon in the Npower League Championship at Portman Road.

Town took the lead in the game, which passed an early morning pitch inspection, just 10 minutes into the second half with central defender Luke Chambers heading in after a cross from full back Aaron Cresswell caused some problems in the box for the visitors.

Despite never being really at their best, Town still were a goal to the good with a few minutes to go. However Danny Rose who came on as a second half sub, secured a point for the Yorkshire visitors by firing a header past Scott Loach in the last minute of normal time.

Speaking of the result, McCarthy said after the game he could not grumble about the result on the balance of play: “We didn’t defend properly, But they deserved a point, not that I’m happy about it – I’m very unhappy about it – but they deserved it overall.

Chambers puts Town ahead.

"The game was a bit more open in the second half, but we didn’t have the quality to get the second goal unfortunately. It was nowhere near the standard as last week, across the board.

“If we could have nicked the three points I’d have been delighted. If you’re going to progress, it’s these games – when you’re the inferior side and you get in front – that you need to see out.

“They could have beaten us and were the better side to be fair to them, so we’ll take the point, put it in our pocket, keep it and make sure we keep picking up more.

“I thought Barnsley took the game to us to be fair, it wasn’t as if they sat back and tried to hit us on the break at all. The weight of expectation can play a part. I’m sure Cardiff were thinking they should have turned us over last week.”
