Town assistant manager Terry Connor says that his short spell as full-time manager at Wolverhampton Wanderers made him a better coach.

Connor and current Town boss Mick McCarthy come up against their former club for the first time this afternoon as Town take on Wolverhampton Wanderers away from hone and is looking forward to the experience.

Speaking to the Official Ipswich Town Club Website, Connor spoke of his experience as a supremo: "A manager’s job is 10 fold, 20 fold more intensive.  Everyone and I mean everyone is looking at you to make that final decision. 

"It was an eye opener, even though I had watched Mick and Dave Jones and Glenn Hoddle and others work in the job. You can have so many people around you but it can be such a lonely place. My hat goes off to Mick and all those other guys who do it and are successful at it because it’s a difficult job to do.

“It hasn’t put me off the job though. What it has done is that if I was ever asked to do the job of manager again, I would be more experienced and ready and have the tools to be better placed to do the job.

“It was a real learning curve for me at Wolves. It wasn’t a successful period for me in terms of winning points but from my own personal point of view I gained so much from the experience and because of what I went through - dealing with pressures on and off the pitch - I feel I’m a better person and a better coach for it.

“I certainly feel I’m in a better position to see things from Mick’s side than I was before I took on the manager’s role at Wolves.”
