Ipswich Town caretaker boss Chris Hutchings has admitted he was disappointed with his side's performance as they lost 3-0 to Sheffield Wednesday at Portman Road, believing many of the players were too anxious.

Town allowed Wednesday to open the scoring in the first minute of the game and truth be told never really looked like coming away from the game with anything and could have no complaints with the result. The display gave a clear indication that any new manager coming into Portman Road will have a stern task on their hand.

Speaking in relation to his side's performance in his first and most likely last game as caretaker manager, Hutchings said: “I’m very disappointed at the result, of course and I felt there was a lot of anxiousness out there today,

"Obviously that is expected when you’re bottom of the league and we got off to the worst possible start, which made life more difficult for us than it should have been.

“Goals dictate games and unfortunately we conceded at the worst possible times. Going behind in the first minute isn’t ideal and then I actually thought the second goal was a little against the run of play, but that was the crucial goal.

“We’re a little bit low on confidence as you can imagine but one or two of the boys haven’t performed to the best of their ability today, which is disappointing.

“We emphasised about keeping our concentrating from the first whistle and making a bright start, but we haven’t done that today and because we conceded so early we’re suddenly up against it.

“It’s now up to me and the coaching staff to pick the boys and get them prepared for Birmingham on Saturday.”
