Curbishley Showing Interest in Town Job

Former Charlton Athletic and West Ham United boss Alan Curbishley has confirmed that he would be interested in talking to Town about the prospects of becoming the next manager at Portman Road.

It is understood that Cubishley, along with Mick McCarthy, are two of the leading candidates for the role with many citing their past experience of being a key factor. Town Chief Executive Simon Clegg has already outlined that the next manager will be a low risk appointment and both managers would clearly fit that specification.

Speaking this morning to Sky Sports, Curbishley said: “I am amazed when you look at the betting and I am up there with the frontrunners. Ipswich have been inundated with people who would like that job and I think they have a very important decision to make.

“The last two or three years have been tough as they have been in decline a little bit.
They have to take their time, sift through the people that are available and come up with the right answer. I am available, obviously, and if they want to talk to me, I would talk to them."

The media continue to link former England skipper Alan Shearer with the vacancy at the club, with the 42 year old Match of the Day pundit now said to have been interviewed by the Portman Road hierarchy. Shearer was also said to be in Barbados at the same time as Marcus Evans during the week, adding further fuel to the fire.

Elsewhere former Town defender Mark Venus has also thrown his hat into the ring, according to online reports. However the 45 year old has no previous managerial experience and is currently assistant to former Town caretaker boss Tony Mowbray at Middlesbrough, having also linked up with the Scot at Hibernian and Celtic in the past.

One manager who looks like he will not be coming to Town however looks to be Harry Redknapp, the former Tottenham and Portsmouh boss is now increasingly being linked with the Manager role at Blackburn Rovers. Also seemingly out of the running is Terry Butcher,  who has claimed that any speculation linking him with the role is purely paper talk.
