Ipswich Town Chief Executive Simon Clegg says that the club have already drawn up a list of targets to become the next manager at Portman Road.

Former boss Paul Jewell finally parted company from Town by mutual consent this morning after yesterdays 2-1 defeat at the hands of Derby County that left the club bottom of the Npower League Championship with around a quarter of the season gone to date.

Many had expected Jewell to depart as early as this weekend, after questioning on Saturday if he was the right man to take the club forward, but ultimately staying in his position. On Tuesday revelations from skipper Carlos Edwards that Jewell may not have the support of the full squad heaped further pressure on the former Wigan boss.

Following last nights defeat, Jewell did not turn up for the usual post-match press interview which resulted in speculation hitting fever pitch that he had resigned. However assistant manager Chris Hutchings, who took the press call in his managers absence, stated that his long time friend was merely watching a DVD of the game.

Speaking in relation to the search for a new boss, Chief Executive Simon Clegg said: “The process has already started in identifying the various candidates that we feel can take this Club forward. We are now moving it on to the next stage but there is no time frame with the process. It will take as long as it takes.

“The important thing for us is to make the right appointment. We need a manager that has the skills to firstly get us away from the bottom of the league and secondly, take Ipswich Town to where we all want it to be.”

It is believed that Town owner Marcus Evans, Chief Executive Clegg and Jewell this morning had a telephone call discussing Town's current situation and all three agreed that it would be in the best interests of the club and each other that a new manager is appointed in order to take the club forward.
