Newcastle defender Davide Santon is allegedly a wanted man in Italy, with the Corrie della Sera, in particular, making almost a daily story of the player going to just about the whole of Italy.
AC Milan have reportedly offered two players with the highly rated French under 21 international youngster M’Baye Niang and experienced defender Kevin Constant, touted to make the journey to St James’ park.
The rest of the Italian press seem fairly convinced that he is heading to Roma, for cash.
Santon’s camp however simply keep repeating the same mantra, that he is happy at Newcastle, wants to stay there, and to be fair to the player this stance never seems to have altered, upon the birth of his child he appeared in the press with the infant already bedecked in a Newcastle shirt.
The main trouble appears in the Italian press to be, they simply can’t seem to get their heads around the fact that an Italian player can really be happy anywhere but Italy.
The fact that he is settled with a local family and protests to anyone that is willing to listen, that it is Newcastle where he wishes to stay, the press simply do not believe him..
Interestingly the club, appear to be making positive noises that Santon, may well be expendable, but it looks very much a case that is the player was to leave, it would be more of a case that he is pushed out, rather than jumps.
None of which means of course means he will not leave and return to Italy, but at the moment it appears, to the Italian press anyway, that he has committed the unforgivable sin of being happy away from la bella terra.
