It may be a cup game tomorrow as the Premier League teams enter the FA Cup race but as Newcastle host Cardiff it makes sense to look at their head-to-head stats from the Premier League. Newcastle go into the game on the back of two consecutive defeats, a draw and three wins from their last six games. Cardiff travel to St James’ Park on the back of four defeats, one win and one draw.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has had an awful week. If their second consecutive defeat wasn’t bad enough, captain Fabricio Coloccini sustained a knee injury which is likely to keep him out for up to six weeks, whilst Mathieu Debuchy saw red and picked up a three match suspension.
Pardew is expected to bring Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Haidara in as replacements in the Premier League games, but Steven Taylor could see himself on the team-sheet tomorrow.
Tim Krul (knock) is also a doubt and Pardew has confirmed that Yohan Cabaye is also sidelined with an injury.
Cardiff have injuries to Craig Bellamy (knee), Kevin Théophile Catherine (knee) and Andrew Taylor (knock), whilst Jordan Mutch (hamstring) will face a later fitness test.
Their chairman Mehmet Dalman has come out ahead of the game and asked for the fans forgiveness, he said;
"I hope you'll forgive us for that and put some trust in us to build this club to what I think it can be built into. This club has huge potential but it all has to start at the football pitch. So less noise about non-football and a lot of noise on the football pitch."
Newcastle United’s Moussa Sissoko said ahead of the game;
"The FA Cup is very important to us. Those of us who arrived last January never got the chance to play in the competition.
We are looking to do much better this year. For the players and the club, the cup is an important chance to achieve something special. We will certainly be giving our maximum and if we could win the cup it would be absolutely amazing.
Because of our position in the league, we can really give the cup everything we have got."
