Only in a Newcastle United game could the referee go down having been injured minutes before it all kicks off on the touchline! Referee Mike Jones hit the deck in the 87th miute of the game after Moussa Sissoko launched his arm into the air striking the referee as he did so. The game had already been stopped so that Southampton's keeper could receive treatement as Jones went to ground.
Common sense prevailed and with a bit of cotton wool stuck up his nose the referee, after laughing it off with a nervous looking Sissoko, allowed the game to go on with no further action.
Minutes later he was having to deal with a touchline scrap which saw Andy Woodman sent to the stands!
