San Lorenzo have once again said that they are hopeful of signing Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini. The Argentinian side spent much of January releasing well timed interviews to the media regarding Coloccini’s intention to join the side with immediate effect. At the time the 31 year old kept a dignified silence until the club upped the anti by publishing what they claimed was an open letter to his “San Lorencista family” thanking them for their attempts to sign him. 

Newcastle swiftly responded by publically declaring that Coloccini would not be leaving the club on a free transfer.

Now San Lorenzo President Matias Lammens has started the media circus again by claiming he has every intention of meeting with Coloccini and signing him for their club. However, he makes no mention of discussing the situation with Newcastle United.

Lammens told La Cicloneta;

"I have the intention of having a meeting with Fabricio and talking about the conditions of his arrival to San Lorenzo.
 
We understand that Newcastle don't have too much interest in the summer other than keeping Coloccini in their squad. They have managed to escape from the relegation zone, so they will now think about what is best for the player; that need to go back home."

So, despite knowing that the Newcastle’s efforts will be concentrated in keeping Colo at the club for at least another year of his contract they have once again begun giving interviews about signing him.

It is well publicised that Fabricio has been unhappy in England due to family issues, but Newcastle also made it quite clear that they would be doing San Lorenzo no favours, that their loyalty is with supporting their captain in whichever way best.

If Coloccini leaves the club it will be a great shame as he is well respected by his team-mates, manager and fans alike, however the club will do right by him which will just feed the arrogance of the Argentinian outfit who appear to believe that if they stamp their feet hard enough they will be handed quality on a plate.

I expect to be laughed off the board, but I hope there is a plan for when he goes I hope they have a replacement or two in mind. There wasn't a plan for Carroll's exit or Ba's but there's a first time for everything right? I was not a fan of his after his first season but he adapted well as evidenced how poor the defence was when he was injured.

I agree CND. We need to get another decent defender in anyway, probably two. Oh hell let's get three.

Let's look forward to having a subs bench with decent players on it.

Having said that I really hope he stays.

There is a plan.

1.) Colo leaves.
2). we are conected with umpteen defenders.
3.) we are told we can't afford a replacement.
4.) his royal porker is in the papers embaressing himself again.
5.) we sell the namimg rights for the tea lady to North Korea.
6) we sign a french bloke who needs at least a year to settle.
7) labia clitoris tells us how lucky we all are to have his royal porkness.

I've only just read into the controversy with Coloccini's move to AC Milan from Boca Juniors was a result of his agent (i.e. his father) engineering the move in a particularly unprofessional manner (i.e. "We're moving to Milan and taking you with us. On an unrelated note, one of the local teams has offered to pay for our move and is interested in signing you. You can't choose to stay in Argentina on your own because you're only 17.")

I'm starting to doubt San Lorenzo are the core reason Coloccini is unsettled...
