Yesterday Argentinian side San Lorenzo published what has been described as an "open letter" to the club, allegedly from Newcastle United defender and club captain Fabricio Coloccini. For the most of January San Lorenzo appeared to be under the impression that Newcastle would willingly release Coloccini from his contract and allow him to move to Argentina for free. However, last week things went (unsuprisingly) wrong for them when Newcastle United confirmed that Coloccini would not be leaving the club and that this would be relooked at in the summer.

Fabricio Coloccini has appeared to remain professional throughout and has failed to respond to any of the allegations, quotes or statements made by San Lorenzo in relation to his move there, whilst continuing to play for Newcastle.

So it seems a little odd that the 31 year old would send the club a letter which he wished to be made public, thanking the club for their attempts to take him home. It also seems a little unprofessional that a player would fail to make a statement on the matter but direct their comments via a different club for publication in a different country, knowing that it would make an impact among the fans who currently pay his wages.

The letter read;

"To my San Lorencista family. I write these lines from a long way away where  I am missing my country, my family and my close ones. And with sadness of  knowing that after a series of meetings held here in Newcastle that my return to  Argentina has been momentarily suspended.

Unfortunately, life does not always end up like you wanted it or needed it  to, many times is it influenced by third parties and the rigidities of contracts  that are stronger than the will of one's own desires However, I am convinced  that this moment of disappointment need not be an obstacle for me to declare my  profound gratitude to each and every one of you for the affection and the  support that you all have provided me during these past few months, in every way  imaginable.

I wish to thank the authorities at San Lorenzo del Almagro  and especially show my gratitude to the president, Dr Matias Lammens and vice  president, Mr Marcelo Tinelli, for all the affection, support and understanding  they have afforded me and who from the first moment, without any reservations or  conditions, were interested in my personal and family situation and who put  themselves at my disposal. Essentially, I want to thank the enormous effort made  by them, from every point of view, to remove whatever difficulties I may have  come in touch with."

So is the letter and the intentions behind it real, was this a private correspondance or just another publicity stunt from San Lorenzo to unsettle the player further?
