FA CUP: Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Brighton v Newcastle Utd

By Tyne-Talk
January 4 2013

Newcastle United travel to the Amex Stadium for tomorrow’s lunchtime FA Cup game against Brighton and Hove Albion. Newcastle go into the game having lost five of their last six games, whilst Brighton host on the back of two defeats and three draws. Both sides have won just once in their last six games.

Alan Pardews men have conceded eighteen goals in their last six games, that is eight more than Brighton. However, despite their defence being boosted by the signing of Mathieu Debuchy, the Frenchman is not expected to feature in tomorrow’s game.

Newcastle are without Steven Taylor (hamstring), Yohan Cabaye (groin), Ryan Taylor (knee), Dan Gosling (knee), Hatem Ben Arfa (hamstring), Haris Vuckic (knee), Jonas Gutierrez (knee). Gael Bigirimana is a doubt with a dead leg, Cheik Tiote has left for the African Cup of Nations and with Demba Ba having left the club for Chelsea, Pardew is lacking options.

Brighton are without Will Buckley (hamstring), Vicente (thigh) and Bruno Saltor (Achilles), whilst Kazenga LuaLua will be hoping to face his former club.

Jake Forster-Caskey and Romain Vincelot are also back from loan spells away from the club. Both are available.

Fact: Of 17 meetings between the two sides they have win 7 each.

Fact:Brighton have made the last 16 in the FA Cup for the last 2 years running. Newcastle have been knocked out by a lower league club for the past two years.

Unfortunately I won't be around tomorrow during the game, though I will get the line ups done.

I will be at St Marys watching the Chelsea game.

Fill the team with young lads, they should be able to compete with a championship side and if not then they shouldn't be anywhere near our first team!

Although i would love a good cup run premier league survival is the priority at the minute!

I don't think it would do the teams confidence good to lose to a Championship side. Let's get knocked out next time.

I love the way you think we will have an option Annie.

I must admit if I thought for a single second we could win the FA cup I would want to see a full strength team as it stands though, I don't particularly care whether we go out in the 3rd or 4th round.

Give the kids a run out.

I try to be optimistic before each match Dave, before the reality of the game breaks my heart.

Let's hope the lads are going out there hoping to impress the manager with their play.

C'mon lads make us proud (Sm42)

I know lets just keep hoying high balls into the net. Do we have a plan here?

If we do I can't work it out.

No plan Dave just booting the ball up the pitch.
Only Anita and Bigi seem to be in any way effective

2-0

Hoskins scored the goal and Newcastle stood and watched him.

Disgraceful!!!!

Thank god that's finished. Feel really sorry for the lads who traveled 350 miles to watch that pile of @#$%&.

Shame the players can't show the same commitment.

I agree our travelling lads didn't deserve to watch that woeful display.

I understand why but not enough experience in our team.

The performance of some out there was a disgrace. People like Obertan wonder why they dont start in the premier.

We all said it at the start of the season, but our second string is terrible and some of the youngsters just dont seem to have it.

We need signings.

You're right Biffin we don't even have a second string.

i was impressed by some of our youngsters today, tav played well at rb and even better when moved into the centre, Bigi is getting better and better and dummett looks like he could be good!

Elliot did well but the likes of Obertan, Abeid, sammy ameobi and Ranger showed that they need to be kept away from the first team and sent out on loan! Obertan should have been able to rip Brighton's defence apart but looked uninterested, Sammy was just a waste of space on the pitch and when either of them lose the ball they dont make any effort to defend! The first goal could have been avoided had Obertan tracked back!

Abeid looks out of his depth even against championship opposition and needs to be loaned out to gain experience!

I'm seriously considering sending a dvd of myself playing football to Pardew because even at 31 and never having played football proffesionally i think i could do a better job than Ranger and would be happy with 50% of his weekly wage!

As i said Dummett looked ok but whats wrong with Ferguson, surely he would have been a better option than a player playing in his first ever first team game!

Also wouldn't Amalfitano have been a better option in midfield to Abeid he's had a lot more first team football throughout his career but never seems to get a chance!

We're now down to Cisse as our only striker for the Norwich match with shola suspended, might we see Xisco on the bench?

finally the ref was absolutely rubbish, he couldn't have possibly seen what happened when he gave Shola his first yellow and seemed to be happy with Brighton playing a rough physical game but as soon as we did he gave a free kick!
