Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Liverpool v Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United travel to Anfield this weekend in tomorrow’s 4pm kick off having have won two, drawn two and lost two from their last six games in all competitions, whilst Liverpool host on the back of three wins, one defeat and two draws from their last six.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is without Cheik Tiote who serves his second in a three match suspension, and whilst he hasn’t ruled out Demba Ba for the trip, he has said that the striker has a 50/50 chance of playing after picking up a calf injury last weekend.
Ba aside, Pardew has no new injury concerns and is only without long term absentees, Rob Elliot (groin), Ryan Taylor, Haris Vuckic and Dan Gosling (all knee).
Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers should have no problems motivating his side after their 3-1 defeat in midweek to his former club Swansea in the Capital One Cup.
However, he is expected to be without Pepe Reina (hamstring) and Glen Johnson (hamstring), whilst Lucas Leiva (thigh) continues to be sidelined.
Rogers, however will be solely relying on Luis Suarez to find the back of the net as his only fit striker, having either assisted in or scored 9 in the clubs 12 goals this season. Despite that, only one of his last 9 Premier League goals has been at Anfield.
Pardew on the other hand can look towards, Hatem Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba for goals, in addition to scorers across the rest of the field, with Shola Ameobi, Gabriel Obertan and Yohan Cabaye also hitting the back of the next so far this season in various competitions, though Ba has scored 7 goals so far in the Premier League.
Pardew told The Gazette ahead of the game;
“The history isn’t good. There’s no point talking about that – there’s no uplift. It’s a tough place. You can get emotionally involved in the way they build the game up. You’ve got to get past that.
Most importantly, we’ve got to bring our game to the pitch. We don’t always do that at Liverpool. Teams freeze there. I didn’t think we froze last year, but I definitely thought we were in awe. I’m determined that doesn’t happen again.
It would be a big, big win for us, even a draw would be a great result, to be honest. You’ve got to get the psychology in the dressing room right. Last year, I didn’t think it was right.
If you lack ambition at Liverpool, trust me, you’re getting beat.”

I'm delighted this game is on the tv.
He invariably loses it then.

Then when we did move up the pitch most of the time it was limited some very obvious passing moves on the wing which normally either resulted in someone of run past 2 or more players who by that time had plenty of time to set themselves or we'd try to pass it to the middle but not knowing where to pass it to from there and so we'd lose it again after a poor pass.
Couple other thoughts:
I like Sammy, I really do but I'm sorry I don't think he's going to get any better while he still keeps on trying to be a pacey dribbler, he can't do it. His close ball control is rubbish which is no surprise being related to Shola.
HBA - Oh god, so annoying today. He set up the goal today which is fair play, but why? Because he took on a man and then made a pass. So many times he tries to beat too many players when he's made a good position for himself to develop the play into something else, but no, he has to try a beat another man and then another. The bloody thing is it works out now and again so he gets away with it

Cabaye went off and ferguson came on to play in the centre, we were getting over run in the middle anyway and then we brought on a winger to play in the centre, ferguson tried but you could see he was out of position and didn't really know what to do i would have brought Bigi on to try and strengthen the defence rather than ferguson to not really do a lot!
Taylor looked pretty solid most ofte time as did colo who had a difficult task on the day!
I was suprised their goal actually stood, it looked very much like he controlled it with his arm on the TV, the linesman couldn't have known if he had or not and neither could the ref!
As for colo getting sent off, had the linesman had that good a view of it for him to be telling the ref straight away then surely he should have seen that there was no actual contact, Sterling's tackle on cisse was dangerous and he actually made contact and didn't even get booked, hopefully the club will appeal the red card! His defence could be that he was just trying to kick racism out of football!
Ps incase anyone was in any doubt I really dislike that racist tool Suarez !
It was quite clearly a sending off and a properly stupid act very un-Colo like (although he has done stuff like that before when an opponent has the better of him, see Elmander V Bolton a few years ago). The worst part is the next three games without him and he absolutely deserves to be sitting them out for that.
Good point apart from the sending of though.

When we took control of the ball and passed and played our game rather than reacting to how they were playing we were on the front foot and liverpool struggled against it!
