Yanga-mbiwa In For Medical At Newcastle? - Player Profile

Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-mbiwa is said to have left France for Tyneside ahead of a medical due to take place tomorrow after a fee was agreed between the two clubs. Last week his agent denied there was interest from Bayern Munich, when a scout from the German side turned up at a recent game. However, rumour has it he is due to sign a 4.5 year deal at Newcastle United.
The 22 year old who has picked up 24 yellow cards and 3 reds in his career at Montpellier, and scored 5 goals, was quoted by Sky Sports at the beginning of the year talking about interest from other clubs, he said;
"I am flattered by the interest from the French champions, but there is no agreement between the clubs, so I am still here with Montpellier.
Newcastle are interested? Well it means my performances have crossed the country. My dream league has always been the Premier League, so you never know.
But for me if Montpellier have to agree a fee with a team, then who knows? But I would love to play one day in England."
You forgot the hyphen. It's Yanga-Mbiwa. And he's good, very good. I've seen Montpellier a couple times while we were in the Championship, because I kept thinking we should sign Alberto Costa from them (now with Valencia). He's been the Montpellier captain for the last couple years despite only being 22.
We were linked to him early on, and I was reservedly excited. If he's in for a medical, I'm 100% behind this one.
I'll take your word for it, waffles. He's the captain of a very good French first division side at 22, which bodes well. And he'd likely be giving up CL football for the Toon-Montpellier are leading by 3 points.
I'm seeing different reports on his contract status but it seems like he has 18 months left at most. Fingers crossed!
i've had my fingers crossed since we were linked to this guy, he has everything we need, he's great in the air and very fast and will hopefully slot right in to the defence and challenge Saylor for a starting position
Thought as much lol Better start going through my old school books see if I can remember any French as looks like that's gonna be native tongue on tyneside
he was born in the Central African Republic but has represented france at u-21 level, according to his bio he's yet to decide who to represent at full international level!
Not seeing anything on sky about this been away this weekend to see Madrid vs Bernabeu (Ozil & Ronaldo worth the trip) was hoping to see a centre back signed up and Nathaniel Clyne
we apparently haven't got time to do a deal for him, although i can see any deal for a defender going through at the very last minute to avoid bids for colo
Fair enough, time may be a factor. But I haven't seen one credible report of us even actually being in contact with his club and it's not like we're doing lots of other deals. I think this one's pure paper talk.
