Barton Undergoes Medical At QPR

Newcastle United midfielder is on the verge of signing for Queens Park Rangers after the club allowed him to talk to the London side earlier today. The 28 year old has tweeted of the medical on Twitter confirming that he feels Newcastle have given him no choice but refusing to offer him a new contract.
In the last half an hour he tweeted;
"Going for a medical now, still no contract offer from NUFC.......think that just about makes my mind up."
"Don't want to leave Newcastle........I've made that clear but my hands are tied."
Earlier on today Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew confirmed Barton was unavailable for tomorrow's Carling Cup game due to a foot injury, but that he expected the midfielder to play at the weekend.

I just hope we screwed them on price and got what we could for him and not a minimal amount
I hear you Dave but I suppose least the fat cockney has actually put his own money in. Rather than the fat Geordie who screwed over his own and didnt put a penny into the club.
Barton made his bed and now he has to lie in it (probably stuffed with cash). Like I have said, I would rather he stayed but there would always be consequences.
Wonder where these top clubs are for him. Will no doubt be another Nolan size contract which he just wouldnt get here.

He hasn't been offered a contract! How f00king hard is that to understand? What, you're gonna act like you don't get why he wants to go somewhere where he's wanted by his employers?
This is perfectly on cue: player leaves NUFC and his former supporters line up to spit on him. It's disgusting herd mentality.
I know you're a reasonable guy, bb, so I'm just going to point out that you know it's a lot more complex than that. The money he put in was largely due to loans for ground development (NOT stupid transfer spending) that had been secured over 30 (or was it 50?) years but that came due immediately upon a sale. That only happened because Ashley & Co. didn't look closely enough at the books. Nobody else has any responsibility for that. Then there was the diminished revenues due to a season in the ccc. Again, nobody's responsible for that except for whoever took the decision to refuse to strengthen the squad in January 2009. You also know that it's a false dichotomy to suggest that we either have Ashley's austerity or Shepherd's stupid borrow-and-spend.

Just because he hasn't been offered a new contract doesn't mean his hands are tied. That infers that he had no choice, when he clearly did have one. So it was a stupid thing to say.

As for the fee, surely we could get a decent fee for a proven Premier League player, even if he is out of contract at the end of the season? Seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Still think it was a ploy to try and persuade him to accept reduced wages. Before QPR were taken over, there appeared to be a lot of interest, but no-one willing to foot the wages. That's the only reason I can see them making him available for a free transfer.
I reckon the boards plan was to use these offers to try and convince Joey he has it pretty good up in Newcastle, and if their reduced wage offer is still higher than the likes of Everton and Stoke, perhaps he'd be more willing to accept a wage cut.

Tunyc, the sale of Barton puts a damper on our ability to play 4-2-3-1, in my opinion. He was good on the Right flank and in the holding spots. Until Ben Arfa returns, we have to chose between
A) Cabaye in the hole, Gosling/Guthrie holding, and Obertan wide right.
or
Obertan in the hole, Gosling/Guthrie wide right, Cabaye holding.
Personally, I'd rather go with option A, but it's still not as sturdy as having Barton in the holding spot.

I think we'll see Raylor on the right with Obertan in the hole. Either a new LB or Ferguson. When Raylor goes off the boil-that's when the loss of Barton will sting if we don't get someone in. Hopefully Gosling will have full fitness and confidence by then.
I still think Tiote & Cabaye is the right combination in the middle-wouldn't break that up.

Tunyc, while I agree that Tiote/Cabaye is the best holding partenership, I feel Cabaye is a better fit in the hole than Obertan is and would provide more of an influence there. When Ben Arfa finally returns (October???) Cabaye immediately slots into the holding spot.
lots of rumours going around we are trying to sign muntari on loan with a future fe of 6m set, wouldnt mind it myself.
We have several players who may be effective in the hole: Obertan and Jonas immediately spring to mind. I think we'd be wasting Cabaye's talents to put him there and then shoehorn...who, precisely, into the holding role? Smith? If Gosling comes good, maybe-but from what I've heard he won't be ready to start PL matches for a while. Guthrie starting PL games will get us torn apart. Also, I want Cabaye to settle into that role because he will need to be Tiote's replacement during the African Cup.
As for Muntari: meh. We don't need a left-sided winger, and this guy couldn't catch on with the Mackems. Inter are desperate to move him, so 6M is too much to pay. He's the Ghanaian Podolski-looks great for the national team and very average for his clubs.

In other news, apparently Barton turned down Sunderland's approaches to sign him. Despite all his faults, the man has taste.
