Pardew: No Contract & No Offers For Barton

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has confirmed that the club will not be offering midfielder Joey Barton a new contract this summer nor have the club received any offers for the 28 year old. Pardew has however said he anticipates Barton seeing out his contract and having an even better season that last year, he also didn't deny the possibility of an additional year being offered at the end of next season.

Pardew also went on to say that he see's football becoming increasingly reliant on year by year deals. He told The Chronicle;

"I have spoken to Joey, unfortunately at the moment there is no new contract for him. He has a year remaining and I think he will stay for that year. In my view it is quite open ended. I think, like a lot of players, that yearly term contracts in the Premier League are going to be the norm.

Who's to say that, in a year's time, Joey won't be offered a contract that he finds acceptable. He really had a fantastic season last year but I'm hoping he will play better next season. I don't see why he shouldn't."

The club are said to rate Barton at £4million should a bid or enquiry be made.

I don't understand what the issue is here. Barton has said he doesn't want to leave and the club want him to earn the deal he's after.

One good season shouldn't earn a bumper deal. make it two and he'll be made an improved offered;

The key is the "no offers" (yet) part. When someone comes in with 4M, and someone will before the window closes, he's gone.
