Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has admitted the club have been met with silence since offering Spaniard Jose Enrique a new deal and that the ball appears to be in his court. Enrique who appeared to have his heart set on a move to Liverpool denied having agreed terms with the club back in May despite Phil Thompson claiming the deal was done.
Pardew said of the 25 year old defender;
"At the moment it looks like he doesn’t want to deal with us.
We have been asked to make him an offer but there has been no progress since then. I still hope we can do something but at the moment we’re still waiting for Jose.
I don’t think there’s anything more I can really add on that situation at this stage."
As said, he has been going since January. It has been obvious in his body language and to a point his performances. A real shame as most wouldn't have a go if he moved on to bigger/better things. This not saying anything is a kick in the teeth for the support he has had but this is modern football.
Daft thing is he will make himself look a tw.at if someone didnt come in for him. Yes, it's very unlikely that this would happen as good left sided players are a premium. If it did though and he suddenly had to sign the offer whatever sh.ite he spouted would sound so hollow.
Move him on and quickly or at least a replacement. Will he go onto better things though or join the masses of players who do very little after leaving.
