Newcastle On Brink Of Ireland Signing

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is hoping to confirm the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland after the 24 year old underwent a medical on Tyneside. The Irishman signed for Aston Villa last season in an £8million (plus player deal) from Manchester City, but Gerard Houllier's arrival has seen him fall out of favour at the club.


Ireland is expected to sign an initial 6 month loan deal, however reports have been conflicting, with Houllier yesterday suggesting Ireland will return to training next week as normal.

Alan Pardew also made it clear this week that whilst he is expecting to have made signings by the end of the transfer window he will not be held to ransom on fees.

He said;

"We’ve put a couple of offers in this week and we’re hopeful we’ll get something done. The way it’s looking at the moment that probably won’t happen until Monday, and we hope there are no last-minute hitches.

I want to sign players, but I will only do it if the deal is right. I’m not going to be held to ransom. The deal has to be right for the right player."
