Newcastle United Striker Nile Ranger and defender Mike Williamson have both put pen to paper and signed new five and a half year deals seeing them stay at the club until 2016, a move manager Chris Hughton is very pleased with.
Williamson told nufc.co.uk;
"Playing in the Premier League with a club like Newcastle has been a dream for me.
I've played in the lower leagues before, so to get the opportunity to play at St James' Park every other week - and grounds like the Emirates and Old Trafford - is fantastic for me.
Me and my family have settled here quickly and it's great to know that we'll be staying here for a long time to come."
Hughton said of the deal;
"Mike has been outstanding for us since he came here. He was somebody who I tracked for a while before we got him, and he has perhaps exceeded even the expectations we had of him.
He has a brilliant attitude and in my opinion has been one of the best English centre-backs in the league this season.
And I thoroughly believe that his best years are yet to come, so we're thrilled to have agreed the new contract."
Whilst 19 year old Ranger said;
"I'm absolutely buzzing. I'm loving it at Newcastle. I really feel I can develop here and I can only learn from some of the players here.
The fans have been great with me from day one, and even though I'd spent my whole life down south until I came here, this feels like home now."
I like the idea of getting our best players and future prospects signed onto long term deals. Just hope we can get Steven Taylor tied down as well but I'm really encouraged by the way the club is going about things these days.
I dunno about Ranger, I haven't seen anything really worth a 5year contract out of him. I reckon williamson is a championship player at best. I start to get worried when fans are excited about these players signing on, is mediocrity the best we have to look forward to?
Ranger looked good last season, not so much this season. BUT I think a few players will be exploring their options now come January and the end of the season.
Tying these too down could be the best thing which has happened in ages!
Williamson has shocked me, and he looks better than Sol and Taylor, and think that him and Colo have looked great togethor.
Ranger has improved and at his age will only get better.
Both contracts are good length, and lets be honest if they turn gash, then the club will sell but have the protection of not letting them go for nothing, like the Taylor situation
