PSG Reject £5M Bid For Erding

Newcastle United have had a £5Million bid rejected by Paris Saint-Germain for striker Mevlut Erding. The Turkish star had a strike rate of 1 goal every 2 games last season with 15 in 30 appearances and with 3 years left on his current contract Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton has been told to up the offer or forget about it.

The 23 year old moved to PSG in the summer of 2009 in a deal reported to be worth £7.5million and had a fantastic first season at the club, despite the team finishing just 15th in Ligue 1. Erding who has duel nationality was born in France but has his International caps with Turkey has also caught the eye of Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

I'd have to think given how things are finacially, 5 mil is our absolute max offer for anyone.

Why would they sell him - £7.5m last year and 15 goals in 30 games? He sounds like their best hope.

Plus I would rather hold onto carroll than replace him which is what is being banded around - fine if this guy is an addition but I am opposed to a replacement./

It's nice to know we are putting in offers for players. The fact that it's for a striker is also comforting and although we'll most likely not increase our offer for him, we may be able to find a decent striker for that amount elsewhere.

There must be something that made us think we could get him for cheaper than he signed for last year, I can't think what though.

Either way, this is a positive sign, it doesn't look like we'll sign him but we're willing to spend sensibly.

I think this is a good sign. A few of us have said over the weeks that the club saying we dont have any money is a way of not paying over the odds.

I thought that if its the right player we would spend the money. If they are good value or have a resale value then Ashley will take the risk, Im sure the Bassong saga convinced him of that. Approx 1.5m turns into approx 10m in a year.
If doing this correctly for a few years helps pay off our debts quicker then so be it, as long as its done sensibly. Selling the likes of Carroll for 5-7 mill now would be poor and make no sense.

Glad it was rejected. This guy has "sell high" written all over him. How much would Zaki have gone for after his first 20 games in the PL? No, thank you.
