Broadcaster SKY TV have revealed plans to rename their Sky Sports 2 channel, as 'SKY Ashes HD' for 63 days, starting from June 30th....

It will ensure the broadcaster has the attention of all cricket fans who subscribe to their sports packages, by showing all the summer Ashes series in full, as well as preview shows, such as Cricket AM, and also highlights and repeats of any of the five summer test matches.

Alongside, the womens Ashes series, will also be shown on the channel.

Many in the industry see this move, as a fightback against BT Sport, which is launching this summer, and who have offered free subscription alongside BT Broadband packages.

It is widely thought that BT Sport will at sometime bid for IPL and some ICC Tournment cricket, such as the world T20.

Sky recently extended their coverage of England matches, by taking their deal with the ECB up to the end of the current decade.

Former England captain Andrew Strauss is joining the SKY commentary team this summer, and will feature on the new look channel.
