England batsman Kevin Pietersen has been ruled out of the two test home series with New Zealand, with the knee injury which forced him to miss the last test with the blackcaps in Auckland, at the end of March....

Pietersen who has been told to rest, having suffered 'bone bruising' to the knee, will now face a race against time to train ahead of the Ashes, which start on July 10th, at Trent Bridge.

KP tweeted today "Injuries are a sportsman's worst nightmare! This one is hurting me the most."

England are due to play the Champions Trophy ahead of the Ashes series, but it is unclear if Pietersen will use the tournament, as fitness for the showdown with Australia.

He first suffered with the injury, whilst fielding in England's warm up match ahead of the series in New Zealand, and the injury then forced him to miss the thrilling test match at Eden Park.
