With only three days to go to out Cup Semi with St. Johnstone, are you catching a dose of Cup fever yet?
Many are describing Saturday’s game as one of the biggest in our history and people are getting carried away with what this game can mean. For me I am trying to play it down a bit, I don’t want to think of the ramifications and disappointment if we lose.
I am living by my Motherwell supporting Mantra – “Set your expectations low and you will never be disappointed.”
I have been here before, in the 70s I left Hampden twice wondering how we lost to Airdire and Rangers in successive years. We were even 2-0 up at half time against Rangers and lost 2-3, tears were shed!!
Then there was Celtic in the 80s as a First Division side when Graeme Forbes hit the post and we could’ve been through but lost the replay!
Of course, under Terry Butcher we played Rangers off the park and lost 3-4!
On the other hand, we now appear to be able to put our strongest eleven on the park, and all playing with a real fighting spirit. If we play at our best, and they play at their best I think we should win. But I wish I hadn’t just said that as I have probably just jinxed us!!
It looks as though we will take more than 6000 to Hampden on Saturday (almost double our regular hard core support), therefore it looks as though a minor dose of Cup fever has taken over.
