Four second half goals consign Well to defeat

A disastrous four minute spell in the second half saw Motherwell capitulate to four one after being a goal up just before the break.

The opening stages of the game were played at a low key tempo, allowing us to keep the ball well and dictate the flow of the game and create a couple of half chances.

After 20 minutes a long throw from Nick Blackman was headed out to Keith Lasley but from 15 yards out he shot wide. Blackman himself had a couple of long range shots that failed to trouble Alexander in the home goal.

Rangers first chance came in the 31st minute when Whittaker outpaced Sutton on the right but his close range effort was well saved by the feet of Randolph.

We took the lead only a minute before the break, Jamie Murphy turned Whittaker inside out before sending over a cross to the far post where Blackman headed in off the underside of the cross bar.

Sadly the lead only lasted for two minutes after the break, Lafferty played a simple through ball to Naismith, who looked to be offside. Randolph saved his first effort but the striker reacted to bundle the rebound over the line.

Then the roof caved in with the home side getting three goals in the space of four minutes. The first came in 63 minutes, we gave the ball away on the half way line and Steve Davis was given the freedom of Ibrox to run from the half way line to smash in a shot from the edge of the box.

A minute later Naismith did beat the offside trap before taking his time to pick out Kenny Miller who scored with a diving header. Two minutes later it was four, Weiss played a one two with Lafferty before beating Randolph from close range.

We did plug away and Alexander was forced to save a Murphy shot from long range, and a Lasley volley scraped the outside of the post.

The scoreline makes it look as though we were hammered but in truth I thought we played as well as we have at Ibrox for a long time only for it all to be undone in the space of a bizarre four minute spell.
