Two goals from Saunders and Sutton in the final five minutes of the first half moved Motherwell into fourth place and on course for a Europa Cup place.

Motherwell moved into fourth place in the SPL with a thoroughly professional performance over Hearts.

The first half had flowed backwards and forwards with both sides having chances although Motherwell had the better of them but Jutkiewicz wasn't quite sharp enough to convert when put through.

The goals finally arrived in the final five minutes of the first half. The first came from Steven Saunders, his first for the club. A Steven Hammell corner picked out the defender and his first effort was saved but he was determined to force the ball over the line.

Then on the stroke of half time John Sutton got in front of defender and keeper to head home a Tom Hateley free kick from 12 yards out.

Motherwell coped with everything Hearts could throw at them in the second half and ran out comfortable winners.

Indeed they could have won more comfortably if it wasn't for a horrific decision by referee Brian Winter. Palazeulos tried to clear with an over head kick and the ball clearly hit Jim O'Brien in the face but somehow Winters saw this as hand ball!

Otherwise it was job done and if we can take something from the Hibs game in ten days time we could make it into fourth.
