Gibbons Blow For Rovers

Bristol Rovers suffer injury blow.

Bristol Rovers have today learned that they will be without new signing James Gibbons for up to twelve weeks. The summer signing from Port Vale picked up the injury in the 4-0 away win over Burton, but despite finishing the game the right-back has picked up a stress fracture.

It's a massive blow for Rovers who are already looking light on numbers with Manager Joey Barton admitting he would still like to bring in up to seven more signings before the Transfer Window shuts later this month. Gibbons will now have to wear a protective boot for up to six weeks before the 24-year-old starts his road to recovery.

"It’s a strange one," Barton said to TIB "He didn’t feel it in the game so he’s got through the game fine but on Sunday he’s woken up with a bit of swelling in his foot.

"We’ve had that MRI’d and it’s come back that he has a slight stress fracture in his second metatarsal, so he’ll be in a boot for four to six weeks. How quick he gets back will depend on how quick he gets out of the boot.

"We’re looking at that as probably an 8-12 week injury, so he’s going to miss a significant chunk of games, but again one man’s bad news is another man’s opportunity."

One option for Barton is to move Luca Hoole back to his more familiar position of right back and bring in Alfie Kilgour at centre back.
