The Reds were poor at home in the defeat to Plymouth on Easter Monday and a win for Argyle’s Devon rivals Exeter caused the gap to the bottom four to shrink to just five points. 

Although they have games in hand, Barnsley could do with a few more points to increase their points total and calm relegation worries. 

In terms of injury news, Conor Hourihane said defenders Josh Earl and Corey O’Keeffe could return from injury this weekend if they are able to get through training at the end of the week. 

Hourihane also added that there are injury concerns to other unnamed players. 

The Reds head coach said: “Josh Earl will be back, which is a big positive, so that’s good. 

“He’s been on the grass now for about seven days. If he can get through the next couple of days, he’ll be in contention for the game. 

“Corey’s in a good place. Once he gets through the couple of sessions on the grass, he’ll be available for selection. So that’s good.” 

Wolves loanee Tawanda Chirewa is not expected to be involved. 

Hourihane also revealed that Georgie Gent has not been involved in recent squads due to not meeting standards that he expects but said that the ‘door is not closed’ on the 22-year-old. 

The left-back has featured just four times, with his last appearance coming in late February away at Huddersfield. 

Hourihane said: “Georgie has played a couple of 21 games. I think I've seen a little bit of a clamour and people need to understand the context around things behind closed doors that people don't see. 

“And there's a certain application, there's a certain standard that you need to meet every single day and you need to train properly, you need to turn up on time, you need to apply yourself properly to get in the squad, to get in the team. And for me, Georgie, over his last few weeks, hasn't met that. 

“He's been told, other people have been told along the course of the season, it doesn't mean that door's closed on Georgie at all, but he needs to meet the standard and professionalism that I expect from every single player.” 

In terms of Rotherham, they sit in 22nd place in League One, 11 points off safety with just six games remaining. 

Unless a miraculous run of form develops, it's more than likely that the Millers will be playing in League Two next season. 

A 1-0 defeat away at bottom club Port Vale on Tuesday seemed to dampen any survival hopes. 

Rotherham began the season with Matt Hamshaw in charge, and he was sacked on 18 March 2026, following a 5-0 defeat at Peterborough United. 

The same day, Lee Clark was appointed manager, and he has drawn one and lost two of his first three games in charge. 

The Millers are unbeaten in four at home and will look to do the double over the Reds, after winning at Oakwell in October. 

This will be the third time the two sides have faced off the season, with Barnsley winning at Oakwell in the Carabao Cup in late August. 

Rotherham have former Barnsley midfielder Josh Benson in their ranks. 

Barnsley and Rotherham have played each other 58 times, with the Reds winning 26 and losing 18.
