Barnsley have completed the signing of Conor Hourihane from Plymouth on a three year deal.

The fee is undisclosed but is said to be around £200,000 for the 23 year old midfielder.

Hourihane was club captain at Plymouth clocking up 142 appearances in three seasons.

Last season he scored nine goals in 53 games and has previously been at Ipswich and Sunderland as well as representing the Republic of Ireland at under 21 level.

Wilson must really rate this lad for the club to pay the money that they are rumoured to have paid and also to give him a three year deal. It is certainly the longest contract I can remember for a long time.

He is highly rated by many in the football world so hopefully the transition to League One football will be an easy one.

It was probably just too early in his career for him to make it at Sunderland and Ipswich but having served his ‘apprenticeship’ in League Two he is now ready to progress his career and reach the levels many feel his talents deserve.

I must say that our signings as yet have failed to truly inspire me but I think that is a good thing. The household names that we brought to the club in January were all poor to say the least.

What he need are hungry, ambitious young players. The signings so far fit that criteria, let’s hope that they have the talent to go with it.
