Simon Brown has simply been the biggest let down for Mansfield for many years now. He was signed in 2004 from black-country side West Bromwich Albion for a fee of £50,000. Many WBA fans were cursing their own club for letting such a good prospect in Brown leave for a such small amount of money in their eyes.

In the early days of his Stags career, although he never scored many goals he caused so many problems with his blistering pace and trickery. In the following season he improved his goalscoring ability grabbing 12 goals in that season, nothing to be sniffed at as Mansfield grabbed a safe position in the league.

Unfortunately for Simon as he was hitting form he had to have a hernia operation carried out, i believe its fair to say he has never been the same player since returning from this operation. Fans were exciting upon his arrival, as he came off the bench against Dagenham early this season he came onto 2000 stags fans chanting his name but ever since he has been unable to deliver.

He scored an unbelievable 13 minute hattrick against Macclesfield this season which has been the highlight for him but his pace seems to have left him and with him being constantly offside his opinion in most Town fans seem to have dropped alarmingly. If Brown could get the pace back which he has lost he would without a shadow of a doubt be a formiddable force in League two.
